Quilt block of the month. National Quilting Day 2025

 Hello,

I forgot to post this on the blog for National Quilting Day, but I did get it on Facebook.  So, for all you blog readers, I apologize for that and each month a new block will be posted here as well.

We are going to start a block of the month quilt, and today is the first post.  This quilt is going to be a technique-based quilt, so there will be many things you can learn from this.  We invite all to join us in this block of the month quilt.   This is going to be a scrappy quilt, so pull out the fat quarters, and all those scraps that you have.

The first block is easy as it is the 9-patch block.  It is also a basic block, and even though I have been quilting for a lot of years, I still enjoy doing the 9-patch block.  So, no matter how long you have been quilting, please join us.

To make the 9-patch block you will need 2 fabrics.  You will need 1 strip cut at 4 1/2" x 22 1/2" from the first color and 1 strip 4 1/2" x 18" from the second color.  Cut the color 1 strip into 5 4 1/2" squares and color strip 2 into 4 - 4 1/2" squares.  Lay the blocks as shown, in rows of 3 alternating you 2 colors.  Using a 1/4" seam, stitch each row of blocks, then stitch those rows into columns.

We would love you to share this with your guilds.

  1. I realize that I do not "know it all" when it comes to quilting and this will be a good way for me to learn new techniques. If I use my scrap child-themed fabrics, I will end up with a great charity quilt!. Pulling from my stash today!!!
