September blog: Other Star Patterns

OTHER STAR PATTERNS WITH IDEAS

We have discussed many different star patterns. This is one of my favorites and you can do so many different types of borders and/or sizes. The Carpenter Star! This star uses half-square triangles with squares.

This example shows three colors with a neutral background. The border adds movement with the same colors and small squares as does the binding color. A piano border would look good too. This quilt can also be made scrappy or with less/more colors. Different background colors is another option. Half-square triangles could also be used in the border but may detract from the center. One can always put small stars in the corners which would make a larger quilt. Below is a grid of the Carpenter Star with 6” half-square triangles. You can always make it larger or smaller by using different sizes of half-square triangles.

More Stars:

Here is a quilt with lots of stars. Notice how the sashing highlights each star. Also how the sashing is also one of the borders. Pillows that match are always a fun addition.

As you can see, so many different stars and ways of putting together. Color and size makes all the difference. Then to add sashing and cornerstones with different borders all make the same star look totally different. That is what makes quilters so unique. We decide on colors, patterns, settings, ect. We each have our own style. Some of the many reasons we love show and tell, and quilt shows. We admire what others do and we receive inspiration too. I am looking forward to the Quilt Fest Show along with other shows going on. Keep showing off those amazing, beautiful quilts.
