Quilting America Red,
White and Blue
2026 Quilt Challenge
Lots of questions about the Quilting America Red, White
and Blue quilt challenge.
Can I use other colors?
Yes, you can add
a bit of gold non-metallic fabric to mimic the golden eagle that you may see on
top of the flag poles or the round brass ball.
Also, fabric may be embellished with metallic silver or gold or blue or
red. Metallic is always a nice
touch. If you want to go the traditional
route, then you will probably be pulling more creams instead of whites in the
quilt. The goal for this quilt challenge
is to ask yourself if the quilt projects the USA flag colors.
Does the quilt need to be of
a patriotic theme?
No, it does
not. You may have a very modern quilt
just as long as it is red, white and blue.
My red is super bright. Can I use it?
Just as long as
the quilt is red, white and blue.
So you are looking for
quilts using solid fabrics?
No. Solids are great but you don’t need to build
an entire quilt around them.
Do I need to use fabric that
is made specifically for the 250th Anniversary of the USA?
No, and this
fabric is not easy to come by.
I don’t like traditional
style quilts.
The quilt may be
traditional, modern, landscape, scrappy, improvisation, an art quilt or a Quilt
of Valor.
Does it need to be a flag?
No.
Does it need to be pieced?
No. Whatever is your quilting style.
Must it be hand quilted?
No way!
Size requirements?
Any size.
Does the quilt need to be
made specifically for this challenge?
No. Any red, white and blue quilt made no earlier
than 2023 may be accepted.
Is this quilt going to be
judged?
No. This is a Viewer’s Choice challenge. No formal critiquing will be given.
